Track something Rentari does not ask for
Add your own field to properties, units, leases, tenants or vendors, fill it in on each record, then report on it like any built-in column.
Define the field once
Action: Open Settings, then Custom fields, and click New field. Name it, pick which kind of record it belongs to (property, unit, lease, tenant or vendor) and what kind of value it holds: text, number, money, date, a dropdown of your own options, or a yes / no tick.
Pick the record type carefully. It cannot be changed afterwards, because reports point at it. The name can be changed whenever you like.

Fill it in on the record
Action: An Additional details card now appears on every record of that type. Properties, leases and tenants show it on the record's own page. A unit field appears when you open the unit and click Edit, and a vendor field when you open the vendor from the Vendors page. Type the value and click Save details.
Ticking Ask for this on every record marks the field so your team knows it matters. It does not stop a record being saved without it.

Report on it
Action: Your field becomes a column you can add to a report, named like Property: Roof replaced. Show it, sort by it, filter on it, or group by it. Money and number fields can also be totalled and averaged.
The field reaches the reports that involve that record type: a property field shows up on reports about ledger rows, payments, leases, units, work orders and applicants, while a lease field shows up on lease reports.

Retire a field without breaking your reports
Action: To stop using a field, open it and clear Show this field on records and in the report builder. It disappears from your records and from the field picker, but the values stay and any report already using it keeps working. Deleting is the other option, and it removes every value saved against the field.
Rentari refuses to delete a field while a saved report still uses it, and tells you which reports are in the way. Turning it off is the safe way to retire one.
