Add a credit to a tenant lease

Record an agreed credit and check it on the lease payment record.

Before you start

  • Choose the correct lease and tenant, and review existing credits for the same adjustment.
  • Have the positive credit amount and a short explanation ready.

Record the credit

  1. Open Payments, choose Actions, then Add credit.
  2. Select the lease and check the property, unit and tenant shown on the credit form.
  3. Enter the Amount as a positive number and add a short Note explaining the credit.
  4. Choose Add credit and check the confirmation on the lease Payments page.
  5. Review the credit entry before adding another credit for the same adjustment.

How the credit is used

Rentari records the credit against the lease tenant and applies it to the next charge sent. The tenant sees the credit line. Add a tenant to the lease first if the form asks you to do so. A lease credit does not send a bank refund or record a payment you received.

Check the result

  • The credit is recorded on the lease payment page after Add credit succeeds.
  • The credit affects a later charge as described by the form; it does not send money to the tenant or record an outside receipt.

Troubleshooting & questions

I meant to refund money. Is Add credit the right action?

A lease credit is a balance adjustment, not a bank refund. Use the appropriate supported return or payment process for money that must actually be sent, and avoid describing the credit as completed payment.

Why did the form reject the credit?

Check that the lease has a tenant and that Amount is a positive value. Read the returned error, then inspect existing credits before resubmitting so an unclear result does not become a duplicate adjustment.
